India cricketer Rishabh Pant has recreated the now-viral clip of Sunil Gavaskar shouting “stupid, stupid, stupid” during commentary when Pant had thrown away a wicket during the Border Gavaskar Trophy. He shared the clip on his Instagram Stories, which looked like it was shot for a brand.
Pant, who will captain the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) this season, had been at the receiving end of Gavaskar’s anger during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 when, in the fourth Test of the series at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), he went to attack a delivery, miscued his shot and gave a catch to third man. The dismissal angered the legendary India cricketer who was in the commentary booth, shouting ‘stupid, stupid, stupid!’.

Gavaskar had also said during commentary on ABC Sport: “You’ve got two fielders there, and you still go for that. You missed the previous shot, and look where you’ve been caught. That is throwing away your wicket. You cannot say that is your natural game. I’m sorry. That is not your natural game. This is a stupid shot. This is letting your team down badly. You have to understand the situation as well.”
Gavaskar had added: “He should not be going in that [India’s] dressing room, he should be going in the other dressing room.”
