Sister Wives Star Comes Out as Trans, Announces New Name and Pronouns

Big news from the Brown family!

One of Kody’s many, many children has just come out as trans …

Mariah Brown in Thought

Meet Leon Brown!

You’ll recognize Leon, of course, since they’ve been a part of Sister Wives since its premiere.

They are Meri Brown’s only child, and a big storyline of theirs was their engagement to partner Audrey Kriss, who also came out as trans last year.

Let’s read Leon’s official Instagram statement, then we’ll get to discussing this, OK?

“Someone recently told me that I didn’t have to have all of my sh-t figured out in order for me to share myself with the world,” they began.

“So here’s me, definitely not having almost any of my sh-t figured out, to let you know that I am trans.”

“My name is Leon or Leo (I love both) and my pronouns are they/them,” they revealed.

Leon went on to say “I remember the first time that I knew I wasn’t a girl. I was pretty young & unfortunately I grew up in a context that was incredibly gendered & restrictive.”

“So I continued to be socialized as a girl & later a woman,” they wrote. “And here’s the thing, I’m finally ready to share my favorite self with the world.”

“And that self is incredibly genderqueer, trans, and unapologetic.”

Leon said that “Being queer & trans are definitely some of my favorite parts of myself,” but “there are so many things that I am learning to love about myself through this process.”

“Here’s to me getting to know myself, share myself, and continually evolve to be the person I am, to be my favorite self in all contexts.”

As a little addendum, they wrote “I’m sharing this part of myself to let folks in, and also to set some boundaries.”

“If you choose to not use my correct name or pronouns, then you do not need to speak to or about me. My name is Leo or Leon, and my pronouns are they/them. Please only refer to me in that way.”

It’s a lovely statement, and it’s so nice to see them so happy, isn’t it?

We can’t imagine this was easy for them, either — we all remember how difficult it was for them to come out as gay on the show.

Meri with Mariah Brown

Meri was absolutely shocked by the news, and she began mourning the loss of what she thought her child’s life would have been like instead of celebrating it for what it was.

Thankfully, Leon’s already gotten the public support of some of their famous family for their latest announcement!

As of right now, Gwen, Christine’s daughter, has liked the post, and Logan, Janelle’s son, has left a short but sweet comment.

“Love ya Leo!!” he wrote, which is just so nice.

Michelle Petty and Logan Brown

He was the first sibling Leon came out to as gay, so it makes sense that he’d be supportive about this, too — they seem pretty close.

Logan’s fiancée, Michelle, added some kind words as well, writing “Love you so much Leon!!!”

Audrey popped up as well, of course, commenting with “Love you so much and so proud of you.”

Meri hasn’t publicly responded to any of this yet, but she’s been very firmly in Leon’s corner after the initial shock of their first coming out years ago.

She was also completely supportive when Audrey came out as trans, so we have no reason to think the same won’t be true now.

Unfortunately, there is some bigotry in some of the Browns — we know that Leon doesn’t get along with Paedon at all because of their different beliefs on major social issues.

We also know that Gwen has claimed that some of her siblings have gossiped about her bisexuality and how they don’t think that is “real or possible,” so for those siblings the idea of someone being transgender must be absolutely mind-blowing.

But despite all of this, Leon is simply glowing in the new photos they shared.

And that’s definitely what truly matters.
