Scarlett Johansson Explains Why She Stood Up For Woody Allen Amid The Director’s Infamous adult Abuse Scandal – Perez Hilton
Scarlett Johansson is reflecting on her support of Woody Allen.
The once-prolific director’s legacy was forever altered in 2014 when his ex Mia Farrow’s daughter Dylan came forward with accusations of adult abuse. Her claims stemmed from an alleged 1992 incident in which Dylan was just 7 years old… The Midnight in Paris director has vehemently denied the accusations, but not before a wave of controversy, varying opinions, and even HBO’s 2021 docuseries titled Allen v. Farrow could hit.
In 2019, Scarlett unforgettably stood up for Woody, with whom she’s worked on multiple films, telling The Hollywood Reporter:
“How do I feel about Woody Allen? I love Woody. I believe him, and I would work with him anytime.”

She added at the time:
“I see Woody whenever I can, and he’s very direct with me. He maintains his innocence, and I believe him.”
The Jurassic World: Rebirth actress was met with a wave of backlash at the time, but has held firm in her stance. Even ‘til this day.
In an interview with The Telegraph published on Saturday, Scarlett opened up more about the difficult situation. From her POV, she said “it’s hard to know” whether she experienced any consequences by standing up for the controversial director, but knows that she did what she felt was right in defending Woody:
“You never know what the domino effect is, exactly. But my mom always encouraged me to be myself, [to see] that it’s important to have integrity, and stand up for what you believe in.”
But on the flip side of the coin, the Avengers actress acknowledged there’s a time and place for everything:
“At the same time, I think it’s also important to know when it’s not your turn. I don’t mean that you should silence yourself. I mean sometimes it’s just not your time. And that’s something I’ve understood more as I’ve matured.”
Woody hasn’t been hit with any official charges in the scandal, but has continued to deny any wrongdoing. During a 2020 interview with CBS Sunday Morning, the 90-year-old claimed:
“Nothing that I ever did with Dylan in my life could be misconstrued as that. I never was accused of anything in my life. [Then] I’m suddenly going to drive up in the middle of a contentious custody fight at Mia’s country home [with] a 7-year-old girl. It just — on the surface, I didn’t think it required any investigation, even.”
He went on to accuse Mia Farrow of fabricating the accusations and persuading Dylan to vocalize them amid their custody battle:
“I believe she thinks it. She was a good kid. I do not believe that she’s making it up. I don’t believe she’s lying. I believe she believes that.”
