Rapper Nicki Minaj arrested at Amsterdam airport over ‘drugs possession’: Report

Rapper and singer Nicki Minaj was arrested at the Amsterdam airport over alleged possession of drugs, several reports said on Saturday. The entire incident was live-streamed on her Instagram account. In the viral video, police officers can be seen surrounding Minaj and asking her to sit in their car.

Robert van Kapel, a spokesman for the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, told NBC News that the Dutch police have arrested a 41-year-old American woman at Schiphol Airport because of possession of soft drugs, adding it was prohibited to take such substances out of the Netherlands. Police did not confirm the suspect’s name, but said she was still in custody pending an investigation.

There are multiple reports which suggest that marijuana was found in one of Nicki Minaj’s bags upon her arrival in Amsterdam. However, the rapper claims that the pre-rolls discovered in her bag actually belonged to her security team.

In the Instagram Live video now viral on social media, Nicki Minaj can be heard asking an officer, “Oh, so I’m under arrest?”, to which he says, “Yes ma’am, you have to go inside”. In the video, the rapper refuses to go to the police precinct without her lawyer.

Nicki Minaj live-streamed the entire incident on Instagram and kept her fans updated on X (formerly known as Twitter), describing it as an attempt to ‘sabotage’ her tour. The incident occurred at the airport as the ‘Super Freaky Girl’ rapper was preparing to board her flight to Manchester for her next show.

“They’ve been trying to stop me from coming to every show. They took my bags before I could see them. Put it on the plane. Now saying they’re waiting on customs. This is what it looks like when people are paid big money to try to sabotage a tour after all else failed. Everything they’ve done is illegal,” the singer can be heard in one of her videos.

The rapper also said during her Instagram Live stream that she was asked to board a police van “and go into the precinct with no lawyer present”.

“They’ve been trying everything they possibly can to TRY to stop this tour,” she said in a post on X.

“They’re being paid big money to try to sabotage my tour b/c soooooo many ppl are mad that it’s this successful & they can’t eat off me. They got caught stealing money from my travel/jets. Got fired. Got mad. Etc,” her another post read.

Soon after videos and posts of her tirade with Amsterdam Police surfaced on social media, Nicki Minaj’s fans were left worried and uncertain as they awaited more news from their beloved star. The hashtag #FREENICKI has quickly gained traction on social media, with numerous followers voicing their concerns about the rapper’s well-being.
