Nutritionist Reveals She Started Losing Weight After Stopping Eating These “Healthy Foods”

Nutritionist Khyati Rupani shares her insights on how eliminating certain “healthy” foods from her meals kickstarted her weight loss journey “Eating healthy and eating to lose weight are two different conditions,” she emphasises. “One has to deal with them properly.” The misconception that all healthy foods equate to low-calorie or fat-free options can sabotage weight loss efforts.

In an Instagram post, she breaks down the calorie conundrum, explaining that fats, while crucial for our diets, pack more than double the calories per gram compared to carbohydrates or proteins. For instance, 1 gram of fat yields 9 calories, whereas 1 gram of carbohydrates or protein provides only 4 calories. A successful weight loss diet, therefore, must strike a balance – low in calories yet high in fibre and protein, without an excess of fat.

To illustrate, she contrasts the calorie content of a tablespoon of butter (50 calories) with that of a whole apple (90 calories). While the apple contains more calories, it is devoid of fat and rich in fibre, keeping you satiated for longer periods.

In her journey to shed excess weight, nutritionist Khyati Rupani identified five seemingly healthy foods that can impede weight loss progress:

Often touted as a superfood for its abundance of healthy fats, avocados pack a caloric punch. With 200 calories and 19 grams of fat per 100 grams, moderation is key when incorporating avocados into your diet.

2. Smoothies:

While smoothies may seem like a nutritious option, they can quickly transform into calorie bombs when loaded with seeds, nut butter, and milk. The expert advises exercising caution and portion control when enjoying smoothies as part of a weight loss regimen.

3. Nut Butter:

Although rich in protein and healthy fats, nut butter can stealthily contribute to calorie intake. With approximately 600 calories per 100 grams, indulging in nut butter should be done mindfully to avoid excess calorie consumption.

4. Diet & Roasted Snacks:

Snacking on roasted alternatives may seem like a healthier choice compared to fried options. However, the nutritionist warns against overlooking the calorie content. For instance, 100 grams of roasted banana chips pack a hefty 519 calories, mirroring the calorie count of their fried counterparts.

5. Sugar-Free Sweets:

The allure of sugar-free sweets lies in their seemingly guilt-free appeal. However, Khyati Rupani dispels the misconception, revealing that sugar-free does not equate to calorie or fat-free. Delving deeper, she highlights that 100 grams of sugar-free Anjeer Barfi contains 317 calories, emphasizing the importance of mindful consumption.
