Mo’Nique Lines Up a Netflix Special, Re-Teams with Her “Precious” Director

After a long and winding road, Mo’Nique finally has a Netflix special on the way. In 2018, the comedian and Oscar-winning actress called out the streamer for gender and color bias when they offered her $500,000 for a stand-up special. One year later, she filed a lawsuit accusing the company of a “blacklisting act of retaliation” after she publicly revealed their low-ball offer. The lawsuit was settled in June, though details of the agreement were not made public.

Netflix announced the special with the help of Mo’Nique herself. “Can y’all believe this shit?” she asks in a video posted to the streamer’s Twitter account.

In addition to the special. Mo’Nique announced that she’s re-teaming with her “Precious” director Lee Daniels on a Netflix pic, “The Deliverance.” The faith-based film centers around a haunted house.

Mo’Nique won an Oscar for her supporting performance in “Precious.” Her other acting credits include “Bessie” and “The Parkers.”
