Maharaja Trophy: 3 Super Overs needed for first time in history as Hubli Tigers defeat Bengaluru Blasters


The Maharaja Trophy match between Bengaluru Blasters and Hubli Tigers made its way into the record books when the game had to be concluded after 3 Super Overs, the first time something like this had occurred in cricket history.

The Hubli Tigers led by Manish Pandey finally won after the third Super Over against the Mayank Agarwal led Bengaluru Blasters after 2 Super overs and the normal regulated overs were not enough to separate the two sides.

Batting first, the Tigers had set a total of 165 for the Blasters to chase with the latter team getting only 164 runs in their given 20 overs. Pandey was the top scorer for the Tigers with 33 runs while Mayank was the leading run getter for the Blasters with 54 runs.

Lavish Kaushal for the Blasters took 5 wickets while Manvanth Kumar L took 4 wickets for the Tigers.

In the first super over, the Blasters scored 11 with the Tigers reaching 10 runs which led to the second super over. Hubli would then set a target of 9 runs in the 2nd super over which Bengaluru failed to chase down, scoring 8.

The match then entered unchartered territory as a third super over was needed. Here, the Blasters set a target of 13 runs which would then finally be chased down by the Tigers, courtesy of doubles fours by Kranthi Kumar.
