IND vs BAN, Top Catches: Rohit Sharma’s one-hander stuns Litton Das, Siraj goes airborne in Kanpur

Two days of no play have not affected the spring in the movements of the Indian fielders at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

In a race against time to salvage an outright result over Bangladesh within the remaining days of play, India found an early wicket through Jasprit Bumrah before India captain Rohit Sharma pulled off a stunning catch on the back of a tactical masterstroke.

After Bumrah castled Mushfiqur Rahim with a nip-backing delivery to the off-stump, Litton Das quelled the India seamer with a string of boundaries. Litton smashed Bumrah for three fours in an over as he sped off the blocks.

Pairing up with Mominul Haque, Litton was threatening to tee off when Rohit brought on Mohammed Siraj into the attack. Rohit quickly brought the off-side field packed into the ring, stationing himself at mid-off and inviting Litton to take on Siraj over the circle for boundaries. The Bangladesh wicket-keeper charged almost instantly and mistimed a fuller ball from Siraj. While the ball seemed to soar past mid-off, Rohit plucked a catch from thin air with his one-handed stretch.

Rohit celebrated jubilantly with his teammates as Litton remained stupefied at the crease. Bangladesh were reduced to 148 for five on the back of Rohit’s tactical nous and athletic effort. Rohit has collected 62 catches from 61 Test appearances for India, the second-most among players in the current squad, behind Virat Kohli (113).

Siraj’s overhead ripper

Shortly after Rohit’s superlative effort, Siraj grabbed a sensational catch off R Ashwin’s bowling. Moving in at mid-off, Siraj nabbed Shakib Al Hasan from a miscued slog down the ground. Juggling back from mid-off, the Indian pacer held the ball with an overhead attempt before completing an airborne catch that left Bangladesh reeling at 170 for six.
