Former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar has been appointed Election Commissioner

Former Finance Secretary Rajiv Kumar has been appointed Election Commissioner, the Legislation Ministry stated in notification on Friday evening. Mr Kumar will take rate the day Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa leaves his place of work on August 31. The outgoing Election Commissioner is becoming a member of Asian Construction Financial institution as its vice chairman.

Mr Kumar is a retired Indian Administrative Carrier officer of the 1984 batch from Jharkhand cadre.

“The President is happy to nominate Shri Rajiv Kumar… because the Election Commissioner with impact from the date he assumes the place of work vice Shri Ashok Lavasa, Election Commissioner, who has resigned with impact from August 31, 2020,” the Legislation Ministry stated within the notification.

Whilst Sunil Arora is the Leader Election Commissioner, the opposite Election Commissioner, with the exception of Ashok Lavasa, is Sushil Chandra. Mr Kumar will sign up for this staff of senior officials when Mr Lavasa leaves after 10 days.

Mr Kumar has greater than 30 years of enjoy in public coverage and management in different sectors. He holds BSc and LLB levels, along side Grasp of Public Coverage and Sustainability.

Mr Kumar was once appointed Finance Secretary in July remaining 12 months, and his stint led to February this 12 months. He’s recognized to have labored on key spaces of Top Minister Narendra Modi’s plan of monetary inclusion, via flagship schemes similar to Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana and Mudra mortgage scheme, amongst others.

Mr Lavasa, 62, was once appointed Election Commissioner in January 2018 and has two years left in his tenure. His appointment to Asian Construction Financial institution (ADB) has approval of the centre. Mr Lavasa made headlines remaining 12 months after a dissenting opinion on a panel’s ruling of court cases towards Top Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah throughout the Lok Sabha election marketing campaign.
