Diane Keaton’s Health ‘Declined Very Suddenly’ In The Months Before Her Death, Says Friend – Perez Hilton

New details are coming out about the last few months of Diane Keaton‘s life.

As we previously reported, People confirmed on Saturday that the legendary actress passed away. She was 79 years old. Not much is known about her death at this time, other than that she died in California. We don’t even have a cause of death yet. However, hours after the heartbreaking news broke, we’re now learning she was struggling with her health in recent months.

A friend of Diane told People that “she declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her.” Oh no. The pal added:

“It was so unexpected, especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”

It is unknown what the Book Club alum was suffering from. Her loved ones opted to keep her health battle a secret, even from her longtime pals, according to the source:

“In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private. Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.”

Whatever Diane was battling must have been pretty serious because she made a massive change in her life: She put her “dream home” in Los Angeles on the market for $29 million in March. Whoa. It reportedly shocked many because she once said she planned to live there permanently.

For those who don’t know, Diane — a long-time house flipper — LOVED her place. We aren’t kidding. She even wrote an entire book about it called The House that Pinterest Built. That’s how much she treasured the property. She moved into the house back in 2017 before completing an extensive eight-year renovation. Diane told Wine Spectator at the time that she always had “an interest in homes” but struggled to “land and stay” because she always discovered something off about each property. That is, until she found her El Lay residence:

“Something’s right, because I love it.”

It is no wonder everyone was surprised when Diane listed it earlier this year! But why did the Oscar winner put her house up for sale? Was it due to her health problem? Did she realize she wouldn’t have much time left there? It’s devastating to think, but it is the only explanation we have right now as to why she would suddenly get rid of her beloved home…

And that was not the only huge change for Diane. An insider told People that the filmmaker normally could be seen walking her dog, Reggie, around her Brentwood neighborhood every single day. However, that reportedly stopped a “few months ago.” The source said:

“She lived in Brentwood for many years. She loved her neighborhood. Up until just a few months ago, she’d walk her dog every day. She was usually dressed the same, with a hat and her signature sunglasses regardless of the weather. She was always very nice, funny and chatty. She’d talk to her dog like he was a person. She was eccentric and had this old-school Hollywood aura. She was very, very special.”

Oof…

Despite her declining health, another friend, who is a film executive, told People that Diane remained a bright light. The pal called her “one in a million,” adding:

“She lived exactly how she wanted to, which was on her own terms, surrounded by the people and things she really loved.”

According to the insider, “being in the spotlight wasn’t important” to the First Wives Club star. She just loved her home and her golden retriever. And up until the very end, she continued to make everyone laugh:

“Diane always had a very strong sense of who she was and how she wanted to live. In these last few years, she kept a close circle and she liked it that way. She was funny right up until the end and she had this way of making even ordinary moments feel special. That was just who she was.”

Diane was truly a gem. We lost a good one. Hopefully, we found out more about what happened to her soon. Reactions, Perezcious readers? Let us know in the comments.
