Biden’s family discussing his exit from 2024 presidential race: Report

Amid speculation of his possible exit from the US presidential election race, family members of Joe Biden have begun contemplating what the latter’s exit from his floundering campaign would look like, as per a report by NBC News.

Despite Biden’s repeated assurances that he would remain the presumptive nominee, his family is considering how an exit strategy could be meticulously timed and executed, people familiar with the discussions told NBC News.

Discussions have revolved around ensuring that the departure, if it happens, not only honours Biden’s over five decades of public service, but also strategically positions the Democratic Party to defeat former President Donald Trump, the NBC report added.

The impact on Biden’s health, his family, and the country’s stability are key factors being weighed in these conversations, the insiders revealed.

The gravity of these discussions is underscored by the increasing unease among party leaders, donors, and even members of Biden’s own re-election team, particularly following the faltering performance in the presidential debate three weeks ago.

Meanwhile, Biden’s family is also reportedly upset by how people they thought to be friends have treated the President.

“There was a much more dignified way to do this if this is what they wanted,” a Biden ally told NBC News. “This is no way to treat a public servant who has done a lot for this country,” the ally added.

Earlier in the day, two more Democratic lawmakers, including Montana Senator Jon Tester and California House Representative Jim Costa, joined calls for Joe Biden to quit the race.

“While I appreciate his commitment to public service and our country, I believe President Biden should not seek re-election to another term,” Tester said in a statement.

25 Congressional Democrats have now publicly called for President Biden to withdraw from the upcoming race.

According to a New York Times report, several people close to President Biden said that they believe he has begun to accept the idea that he may not be able to win in November and may have to drop out of the race, bowing to the growing demands of many anxious members of his party.

Currently, the 81-year-old politician is spending time at his Delaware residence in isolation after he tested positive for coronavirus.

Top Democratic leaders, including former President Barack Obama expressing concerns to allies and Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi, have reportedly asked Joe Biden that the party could lose the ability to seize control of the House if he doesn’t step away from the 2024 race.

On the other hand, the Republican Party is rallying around Trump, who recently survived an assassination attempt and accepted his party’s nomination.
