At least 8 killed in fire at building near Hyderabad’s Charminar


A fire that broke out early Sunday morning in a building near the Charminar in Hyderabad killed at least eight people, officials told news agency PTI.

The blaze occurred at Gulzar House, a busy commercial area near the iconic monument. The Telangana Fire Department said it received a call about the incident at around 6:30 am and responded immediately. Several people were found unconscious inside the premises and were transported to nearby hospitals.

A senior official at a private hospital confirmed to PTI that eight individuals were brought in dead. Local media reported that some of the victims were children, though authorities have not formally released the identities of the deceased.

Union Minister G. Kishan Reddy, who visited the scene, told reporters that police had informed him of the eight fatalities, but said the final toll would be confirmed by authorities. A local legislator from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) party said preliminary reports indicated that about 20 people were taken to hospitals for treatment.

Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy expressed shock over the incident and directed officials to carry out rescue operations and ensure that those injured received proper medical care, according to a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office.
