Julianne Moore Will Head Venice’s Main Jury, to Be Joined by Audrey Diwan and Leila Hatami

Julianne Moore is set to head Venice Film Festival’s main jury at the fest’s upcoming 79th edition. The Oscar winner is presiding over a seven-person jury that includes two other women: Audrey Diwan, who took home the fest’s most prestigious honor, the Golden Lion, for abortion drama “Happening” last year, and “A Separation” star Leila Hatami.

Last seen in “When You Finish Saving the World,” Moore is a four-time Oscar nominee who won Best Actress in 2015 for “Still Alice.” She landed the Venice Coppa Volpi acting award in 2002 for “Far From Heaven.” Variety notes that she “is the first American woman to be awarded top acting prizes in all of Europe’s top fests. In addition to Venice, the actor was awarded in Berlin for Stephen Daldry’s ‘The Hours’ in 2003, and in Cannes for David Cronenberg’s ‘Map to the Stars.’”

Diwan made her feature debut with 2019’s “Losing It.” She’s set to make her English-language debut with Léa Seydoux-starrer “Emmanuelle,” which follows a young woman’s adult journey.

Hatami won Berlin Film Festival’s Silver Bear Award for Best Actress for “A Separation.” “Blue Whale,” “We Are All Together,” and “A Man Without a Shadow” are among her recent credits.

Venice Film Festival runs August 31-September 10 this year. Its lineup will be announced July 26.
