313 Lion Deaths In 2 Years In Gujarat: Minister Tells Meeting

A complete of 313 lions, together with 152 cubs, have died in 2019 and 2020 in Gujarat, with 23 of the fatalities being from unnatural reasons, State Wooded area Minister Ganpat Vasava mentioned within the Meeting on Friday.
Replying to a question via Congress MLA Virji Thummar, the minister mentioned 154 deaths happened in 2019 and 159 in 2020, and those include 90 lionesses, 71 lions and 152 cubs.
“Of the 313 deaths, 23 have been because of unnatural reasons like falling in open wells or getting hit via automobiles,” he mentioned.
The minister promised motion after Mr Thummar claimed some lions have been getting inflamed with viruses from the beef fed to them via the wooded area division.
Mr Vasava mentioned parapet partitions have been constructed round 43,000 wells close to Gir Sanctuary to make sure large cats do not fall into them, including that a number of such conservation efforts had resulted in the lion inhabitants emerging 29 according to cent from 523 in 2015 to 674 in 2020.
He knowledgeable the Space that the Centre had given Rs 108 crore within the closing two years for conservation and building actions within the Gir wooded area area.
