170 MLAs Left Congress To Sign up for Different Events To Contest Polls Between 2016-20: Record

As many as 170 MLAs left the Congress to sign up for different events throughout the elections held between 2016-2020, whilst most effective 18 BJP legislators switched events to contest the polls on this duration, in keeping with a file via ballot rights staff Affiliation for Democratic Reforms (ADR).

The ADR, in a brand new file, stated between 2016-2020, 182 of the 405 re-contesting MLAs, who switched political events, joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), adopted via 38 who joined the Congress and 25 who joined the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS).

5 Lok Sabha MPs left the BJP to sign up for different events throughout the 2019 Lok Sabha polls whilst seven Rajya Sabha MPs left the Congress to sign up for any other party to contest elections between 2016-2020, the file stated.

As many as 170 MLAs left the Congress to sign up for different events throughout the elections held between 2016-2020, whilst most effective 18 MLAs left the BJP to sign up for any other party to contest polls on this duration, it added.

“It’s to be famous that the new fall of governments in Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Goa, Arunachal Pradesh and Karnataka State Assemblies had been because of defections in their MLAs,” the file stated.
It stated between 2016-20, 10 of the 16 re-contesting Rajya Sabha MPs who switched political events joined the BJP and 5 of the 12 Lok Sabha MPs who modified events joined the Congress throughout the 2019 parliamentary polls.

For the file, the Nationwide Election Watch and the ADR have analysed the self-sworn affidavits of 433 MPs and MLAs, who modified events and re-contested elections held within the remaining 5 years.
